Since Miguel’s visit at least one area must be congratulated for launching their local currency system: Hawke’s Bay e-Dollars http://www.transitiontowns.org.nz/node/270external link   They were greatly helped in their preparation for this by hosting a presentation by Helen Dew of the Living Economies Educational Trust and purchasing excellent resources, such as Healthy Money, Healthy Planet, by (Transition Towner) Deirdre Kent.

Historically, local currency systems have come to the fore in times of economic stress.  Signs are that we are well on the way toward such a time.

To assist groups that have yet to come to grips with local currencies and how to get them started, Living Economies is making resources available at special prices for a limited period.  Visit our ‘Resources’ page for details.

This special offer closes at the end of August 2008, so take advantage of the savings!!  Set up a Transition currency group and follow Hawke’s Bay’s example. Good resources, advice and encouragement are readily available!

It’s far better to lay sound foundations for your currency system while relatively stable conditions prevail rather than be forced to make hasty arrangements if the economy turns to custard!
